More than 80 families received food parcels, clothes, and cooked meals from Apostolic Faith Mission church in Phomolong, Galeshewe, on Saturday 01 May.
According to the church leader, Apostle Patrick Mokwena, they were able to fulfill the church’s mandate, which is to look after the needy, particularly when most people are still feeling the impact of Covid 19.
“Coronavirus has affected many people, including families, children, and individuals. As a church, we have a significant role in ensuring that we remain in touch with our communities and respond to the needs of the people. We count ourselves blessed to be able to reach out to them through these initiatives,” said Mokwena.
The Apostle highlighted that he was happy with the turnout of people who supported the initiative. However, they want to see more families getting assistance in the wake of the upcoming winter season.
He made it clear that there were no specific criteria regarding recipients but that the church endeavored to assist those in need.
“Our responsibility is to be a blessing to the most affected and disadvantaged members in our community. However, we desire to go further than that and help as many people as possible,” added the leader.
Mokwena has called on the community of Kimberley to assist the less fortunate during times of need, he says the church will have another outreach to help the needy on June 16.
One of the beneficiaries, Anna Modise (45), said: “I want to thank the church for giving us food and clothes, this gesture is highly appreciated. May God bless all who saw it fit to remember people like us who are not working and relying on social grants for survival.”
