Kopano Ke Matla, a Non-Profit Organisation established in 2018, operating from Elizabeth Seema’s house in Tyala Street, Galeshewe continues to plough back into the community.

South Africa is technically operating in recession mode despite recent reports of a decreased unemployment rate. Communities face poverty as many lose jobs, electricity, food and increasing petrol costs.

The non-profit organisation has made it its mission to mediate for families forced to go to bed on an empty stomach. Mme Lizzy, the founder, started sharing meals with her neighbours. She later formalised the initiative to tap into other resources.

Kopano ke Matla currently has six community board members and regularly provides home-cooked meals with the little they receive from donors and sponsors. The organisation has diversified and now cares for the aged and the disabled, a chess club, Amapiano and Cultural Dancers.

Mme Lizzy encourages children to stay away from drugs and other related distractions.  She aims is to give children a purpose in life.

Community members enjoyed a hot meal and fruits during an outreach program at the NPO’s new site. Entertainment included music, cultural and modern dance. There were tears of joy and ululation when people received clothes and shoes. The items ranged from infants and babies to adults obtained from community members.

The charity strives on values of need, prayers, care, and social development while providing for the disadvantaged.

However, sustaining the organization is problematic because it needs community involvement. An appeal is made to the community to volunteers at the organisation and more donations are needed.

The organisation acquired land in the open field between Mendi Road and Mashoko Street, where they intend to operate in future.
