ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR GRADE 12 EXAMINATIONS IN THE PROVINCE

The Northern Cape Department of Education declares that it is all systems go for the 2022 National Senior Certificate Examinations.

Last year, the Northern Cape achieved a pass rate of 71, 4%, an increase of 5, 4% from 66 % in 2020.  The Class of 2022 has an enormous task ahead of them, to ensure that they further improve on last year’s pass percentage and surpass the national average of 76,1%.

In mitigating the backlog caused by the COVID-19 pandemic

, the Department held various interventions such as Holiday School Camps, providing Additional Learning Support Material, Radio Broadcast and others, emphasising on progressed and borderline learners to get maximum support.

All candidates’ examinations will commence on 31 October 2022 and conclude on 7 December 2022.

Provincial and district officials audited all 145 exam centers by following the National standard.  Sixteen thousand one hundred and five candidates will sit for the exams, 13 873 are full-time and 2 232 are part-time.

To ensure the quality marking of scripts,   an army of more than 1000 personnel is involved ranging from Markers, Moderators and Centre Managers.  One hundred and fourty six (146) Chief Invigilators are appointed and trained to strengthen the efforts of preventing irregularities.

The Province is confident that all candidates will receive question papers on timeously.

Marking will start on 7 December 2022 and the results will be announced on 19 January 2023 by the Minister of Basic Education, then the provincial Matric Awards the following day.

The Department of Basic Education is confident that it has provided enough support during these trying times to equip every willing candidate to sit down for the most critical examination they will ever write.  The end of the journey they undertook 12 years ago.  The Department acknowledges and thanks parents, family members and the community for the care and guidance provided to learners until this stage.

It is also essential to understand that the matric examination impacts registered candidates and is a partnership between Government, parents, family members and the community that spanned over 12 years and has reached the last chapter.

The Department is confident that the Class of 2022 will do the Northern Cape proud.  They are expected to conduct themselves ethically and professionally when sitting for exams, keeping in mind the oath to uphold these standards.
