The Brandvlei Primary School was hit by a severe thunderstorm that ripped through the town on Tuesday afternoon and caused extensive damage to the school. The infrastructure team is on-site to assess the damage to the school building.
At this stage, there are six (6) affected classrooms, where the roof is ripped off from the school building. The Department of Education will provide immediate assistance to the school for learners to complete the academic year.
The Department is grateful that this unfortunate incident occurred after school hours, as educators and learners could have suffered injuries or even fatalities. It will await the assessment report from the Infrastructure Unit to determine the way forward.
