SISTERS DOING IT FOR THEMSELVES

A concept by three visionaries conceived two years ago came alive at Grand Diva Beauty Boutique in New Pak, Kimberley.

Businesswomen Virginia van der Linde and Evelyn Steenkamp, and Charmaine Ramasedi launched Strategic Entrepreneurial Alliance Movement (SEAM), a registered non-profit organisation.  The objective is to create a platform that will breed women entrepreneurs by providing a network of necessary skills, resources, and strategic relationships with their counterparts.  The movement collaborated with Mme Re Ka Thusa Trust, the only entity mandated by Northern Cape Government to empower and develop women in business.

Women from various sectors, including construction, training, fashion designing, media, and events, attended the launch.

SEAM intends to give non-financial support services to startups and resuscitate female-owned businesses struggling to stay afloat and recognising those who excel by hosting business awards. SEAM will host the first awards ceremony in November 2019.

“What makes this movement unique is the fact that we are celebrating ourselves. We are trapped in our little corners, facing challenges, and as a result, we forget to celebrate our worthiness as businesswomen,” said Evelyn, a founding member.

“Actions speak louder than words” those were the words echoed by Gladys Matshele, the Provincial Manager from Mme Re Ka Thusa Trust. “I was excited when approached by the trio to discuss this distinctive concept. They completed all their tasks on time. This proves their commitment to the project,” said Gladys, brimming with pride.

Gladys passionately portrayed growth possibilities for this movement in different aspects, including strengthening family relationships.  She encourages women to dream, take action irrespective of how small the idea is, and not be ashamed about their background or be intimidated by being unable to express themselves in English.

The dynamic, esteemed hard-working, Lady Charmaine Ramasedi, who boasts several business accolades, was very emotional as she reminisced about when she started her mechanical workshop.  Ramasedi said her dream nearly crashed before it could begin; due to lack of a diagnostic machine, Mme Re Ka Thusa came to her rescue.

Lady Charmaine spoke about  “A heart of an entrepreneur,” which describes attributes such as self-discipline, forgiveness for failures, honesty, integrity, and pulling yourself up after each fall.

Mike Ndimande, a businessman and motivational speaker, the only gentleman in attendance, applauded the women for coming up with an organisation that does not bash men. He praised and encouraged members to keep the movement clean.  He warned against replicas and advised members not to be despondent because the results will not be the same.
