As part of its National Day of Action, South African Student Organisation (SASCO) and affiliates called on the government to improve Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges and address students’ challenges in the Northern Cape Province. The students marched to the Premier’s office to hand over the memorandum.
SASCO’s Acting Chairperson, Motseothata Mampe, said that accommodation, access to bursaries, lack of adequate infrastructure and revamping of all colleges
need urgent attention.
Mampe instructed the government to intervene, or they will shut down all campuses.
SASCO National Executive committee member deployed to the Northern Cape Zandile Shabalala said that infrastructure development in TVET colleges must be a priority. “Students in these colleges must get the same treatment and benefits as those at universities. We are giving you 14 days to respond to our demands, failing which we will not hesitate to return to this office daily until the matter is resolved,” emphasised Shabalala.
The Premier received the memorandum and promised to respond within the required timeframe.
