Africa Beyond Fourth Industrial Revolution (AB4IR) in partnership with Goethe Institute, an organisation from Germany, held a graduation ceremony after an intense two weeks course in theory and practical training on drones.
Twenty three young women from Kimberley, who happen to be the first group in the province obtained certificates while top performers were inducted into an internship programme.
The ceremony, presented and funded by (AB4IR) and Goethe Institute took place at the Galeshewe SMME Villager on Friday, 19 May.
Kelebogile Molopyane, CEO and Founder of AB4IR, via a digital platform, advised candidates to pursue their ambitions and to be enthusiastic. “Apply your talent and use the certificate wisely,” she said.
Lot Kafesu, a representative from Goethe Institute who manages township projects in Southern Africa, encouraged young women to use the opportunity to improve their future. “Utilise the skill; not every woman is fortunate to be empowered with a tool that can change their circumstances. You can change the world for the better and start your own business”, he stated.
The two-week training enthralled participants as they were guided through many facets of drones, such as drone legality and data collection.
Four young facilitators provide training and cover various aspects such as video editing, controlling drones, taking images and films with drones, and providing applicants with entrepreneurial skills.
Sfiso Netshandama, a facilitator who specialises in shooting pictures using ariel photographs, and video recordings enjoyed working with the Kimberley Divas. He indicated that having video editing skills may open doors as the curriculum prepares young women to be confident and can access the industry as television video editors, animators, broadcast engineering technicians, and many more.
The top ten performing candidates were offered internship opportunities.
Twenty-five-year-old Louie-Zane Claassen, who secured a spot in the internship programme said she had no idea what a drone was or how to utilize it but has learned so much through this programme, including boosting her self-esteem.
Lelentle Motshabi, an entrepreneur and photographer, stated the program helped upgrade her photographic business because she now knows techniques for taking pictures with a drone. Motshabi also mentioned that she had no idea drones were used to take pictures, but she can now take photos from different angles with this knowledge.
