Crowning Mr. and Miss June 16 2023

In collaboration with Empire Model Academy, Amandla Danca Teatro ZA hosted their 2nd annual Mr and Miss June 16 2023, pageant.

The Northern Cape Theatre in Kimberley was filled with euphoria when eleven young, talented, ambitious teenagers and youth made it to the finalist.  Their ages range from 13 to 20 years old.

Dartainian Lucas, owner of Empire Model Academy, directed the programme.  He proudly declared that they broke boundaries by having a transgender person as a participant “to educate today’s youth about the significance of what happened in 1976.  Where there was no gender discrimination.  All students were activists”.

“The competition was not intended for experienced models, but aspiring models to make a difference in the lives of the youth today”, said Lucas.

The pageant encompassed three categories: Miss Teen June 16 2023, Miss June 16 2023 and Mr. June 16 2023.

According to co-organiser Monwabisi Bongiwe, unsuccessful entrants who have previously entered the competition were welcome to re-enter.

China (Valenka) and Fearless Scorpions consisting of two male dancers (Robin Adams and Kingsley Kok) from Roodepan, entertained the audience.

Tears of joy, hugs and congratulatory messages were shared when the winners were announced.  Thirteen-year-old Christopher Louw was crowned Mr June 16 2023, Miss June 16 2023 is Bongiwe Mbele and Miss Teen June 16 2023 15 years old Rethabile G.V Mabusa.

Mr June 16 2023, wanted to show people that Ritchie does have talent and wants to empower other youth.

“I have always had a passion for modelling and bringing the community together” said 20year old Mbele with pride.

Mabusa comments, “This pageant helped me to boost my confidence and overcome my fear of taking chances.”

The Social Buzz Winner crown went to “Coachella Randy” from Douglas, as she was the crowd’s favourite.s favourite.
