The USA Women’s national football team will today (Friday 22 Sep) host South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in the first of two international friendlies the second of which will be on Sunday.
The first game was played at TQL stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. The result of the match was not available at the time of going to press.
The second match will be played on Sunday at the Soldier Field stadium in Chicago, Illinois. It will start at 11:30 pm just before midnight SA time.
Though Banyana Banyana lost their two previous games against USA, they will be playing them as the African champions this time around. This was eloquently put by Banyana Banyan coach Desiree Ellis “We have played them twice before in 2016 and in 2019, and now we get another opportunity to test ourselves against the best, but this time as African champions.” she said.
The games for Banyana Banyan will be seen as preparation for them for the COSAFA Womens’ Cup. The tournament will be taking place from the 4-15 October this year. South Africa will be the host of this event. The home team will look to win this tournament.
Banyana Banyana will look to have a great performance against the US team, setting themselves up to take on their Southern African counterparts in the next championship to follow. These are must watch games.
