NC: HIGH SPEED CHASE WITH POLICE NABS ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT WITH ILLEGAL FIREARM AND AMMUNITION

The Kimberley Flying Squad pursued an alleged armed robbery suspect during a high speed chase from the N8 Bloemfontein entering Kimberley to the Griekwastad road, approximately 15km outside the Kimberley.
On Saturday, 23 September 2023 at approximately 02:45 the Kimberley Flying Squad followed up on information, stopped and searched the white Toyota Hilux bakkie that was allegedly enroute from the direction of Petrusburg to Kimberley after allegedly being involved in an armed robbery in Petrusburg.
Police searched the vehicle and found a 9mm pistol, with a filed off serial number and ammunition. The bakkie was also confiscated as it was allegedly utilized in the commission of crime.
The 31-year-old suspect was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and could possibly be linked to the armed robbery in Petrusburg. The suspect will appear in court soon.
The Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape, Lt Gen Koliswa Otola commended the Kimberley Flying Squad for their vigilance and professional approach which resulted in the arrest and recovery of an illegal firearm.
Lt Gen Otola also reiterated that we are observing Police Safety month and encouraged SAPS members to be operational ready at all times and ensure that their safety and that of their colleagues are a priority at all times. End.
