NC: NORTHERN CAPE PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER CELEBRATES DIVERSITY WITH PERSONNEL IN KIMBERLEY

The South African Police Service in the Northern Cape celebrated Heritage Day on 26 September 2023 at the SANDF Sports Grounds at Diskobolos in Kimberley.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Provincial SAPS Women’s Network and Men for Change structures and celebrated under this year’s heritage month theme “Celebrating our cultural diversity in a democratic South Africa”.

The day was filled with fun, laughter, dance, good food, colourful cultural attire and gave some respite and appreciation to SAPS members for their hard work and commitment.

Participants were from the SAPS Provincial Components, Frances Baard District Office and stations within the greater Kimberley precinct.

The day was graced with the presence of the MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Me Nomandla Bloem, the Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Koliswa Otola, the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Corporate Services, Maj Gen Henriette De Waal and Ms Dumukazi Magibolo and her delegation from Metropolitan, who were the panel of adjudicators at the event.

The opening prayer was delivered by Chaplain Moseki, while Maj Gen De Waal welcomed everyone and the purpose of the day was outlined by the Provincial Champion of Women’s Network, Brig Thabo Moeng.

MEC Bloem in her keynote address reiterated that South Africa is known as the rainbow nation with all the different cultures and languages. South Africa is called the ‘‘Rainbow Nation’’ due to its colour and diversity, unity of various cultural, racial or ethnic groups. Heritage plays an important role in promoting cultural diversity, social cohesion, reconciliation, peace and economic development.

Second Prize was shared by Police Emergency Services and Flash as Xhosa and Provincial Human Resource Development as depicting Sport Culture:

Third Prize was shared by Provincial Detectives as Afrikaners and Criminal Record and Crime Scene Management as diverse cultures.

Best team spirit was Provincial Corporate Communication depicting the Cape Malays:

Best dressed male was AC Gilbert Sias at Provincial Crime Intelligence

Best dressed female was awarded to Brig Eliza Tait the Provincial Head: Personnel Services.

Brigadier Moeng concluded a very successful and eventful day by acknowledging all the VIP guests, the sponsors Metropolitan and all the participants for the enthusiam and great spirit that eminated throughout the day.
