Sol conducts cleansing ceremony for staff

The Sol Plaatje Municipality has conducted a cleansing ceremony for its workers to rid the institution of the “many tragedies” that have plagued it with a prayer ceremony and a revival session last Monday at the Kimberley City hall.
Sol Plaatje’s cleansing ceremony was held in conjunction with its employee representatives and the non-profit Revival FM radio station.
In attendance at the function were, among others, Roma Nna Media House, Revival FM, the South African Municipal workers Union (SAMWU),
the Independent Municipal & Allied Trade Union (IMATU), numerous local church denominations as well as the Galeshewe Ministers Fraternal (GAMIFRA) were partners in the prayer session.
Thapelo Matlala, Sol Plaatje municipal manager, detailed the purpose of the religious gathering as a commemoration for all the fallen colleagues. It was also a prayer for unity and peace. He further stated that ‘this was long overdue” and expressed his satisfaction that it was finally happening.
On June 25 this year the municipality lost two of its employees in a tragic accident that involved the bodyguard and the driver of the mayor Kagisho Sonyoni that tragically took their lives.
Not forgetting the five municipal workers who lost their lives at the Homevale WasteWater Treatment Plant in 2012.
Matlala also stated that this prayer day was to restore the hope, as well as the healing process, unify and to restore the spirit of Sol Plaatje Municipality.
Apostle Patrick Mokwena stated how important it was for the municipality to plant seeds of prayer and for the institution’s management to spiritually invest in the organisation in order for the municipality to plough good fruits, he said.
Many of the employees within the municipality expressed how they wished that such an event could, at least, be held as a monthly revival as it is in dire need in all spheres of the municipality.
Raymond Louw, senior traffic officer said.: “This type of event was needed in the municipality. There are things that happen that we don’t have control over and we need to go and seek spiritual intervention”. He further stated: “I even had a conversation with Mr Makapela that can you make a day and visit the traffic department. I am really happy and delighted’.
Lerato Jabetla, also an employee of the municipality said: “This was a beautiful event. It encourages us as employees. I wish for it to be a yearly event. I loved it. It transformed me and made me a changed person”.
Paul Segano a security officer for the municipality said: “I want this to be something that will happen regularly, not just once a year, because as workers this prayer cleansing ceremony has healed our spirits. Even though there are many struggles in the workplace this revival has awakened my spirit. This will build us as employees of Sol Plaatje so that we know that God is always with us and he will protect us in all situations”.
In his closing remarks, Reverend Mzi Makapela thanked all pastors from the various denominations. He said that in the following year on the last Monday of November month the prayer day will take place once again. Invites will be extended to all government departments and private sector companies.
