Roads and Public Works CFO suspended

The Northern Cape Department of Roads and Public Works has placed its Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on precautionary suspension pending an investigation.
This follows the confiscation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) of over R600,000 in cash from the CFO’s vehicle during a roadblock last week. The CFO was driving a vehicle containing the money during office hours.
MEC for Public Works Fufe Makatong stated that the “allegations against the CFO are being taken very seriously”, as such any action could unfairly cast the department in a negative light, she said.
The suspension is precautionary in nature, pending both an internal review and external investigation into potential transgressions of the financial protocols and codes of ethics for senior managers.
The department emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountable governance. It will provide further updates once the investigation has concluded.
