The Sol Plaatje Masters Football League last weekend held its awards ceremony at the AR Abass stadium hall in Square Hill Park, Kimberley to celebrate and commemorate the different clubs that make up the organisation.
The event had all executive members of the Masters League in attendance which allowed a maximum of two representatives from each club.
The Chairperson of the league Seabata Makhele said in his opening remarks: “For the year of 2023 we have had a splendid season compared to others. This should be one of our best seasons.” This statement seemed to resonate with the guests.
The awards were handed out in terms of league position from the last team to the first. The grand total of the prize money for the day was R59 500 shared amongst the teams in relation to their position on the log.
The biggest winners of the day were Aztec Masters FC who won the league this season. Juventus Masters FC also won a shield trophy for having won the league three consecutive times in the past.
The chairperson encouraged the teams to be less concerned with the prize money and focus on the ideals that the league was created on which was to foster camaraderie amongst the teams and players. The other aim being also to promote health and wellness amongst the participants of the league.
This was an auspicious occasion for those involved. Obakeng Muishond, captain of Kopano United Masters stated: “I’m very happy about the executive committee. They did a very wonderful job.”
Once the announcements and expressions of gratitude were made all that was left was for those in attendance to meet and greet. A wonderful event capped off with brotherliness, food and refreshments by the executive committee of the league.
