NC: SAPS AWARENESS AND ATM SAFETY HINTS
Kimberley: Tuesday, 05 December 2023: The South African Police Service has noticed with concern the number of ATM related crimes reported and urged the community to become more vigilant and alert when using ATM’s.
The police are pleading to the public to adhere to and implement the following safety hints to ensure their safety.
ATM robberies:
*Do not speak to strangers while busy at a ATM;
*Use ATM’s that is well lit and not hidden away;
*Do not give your pin to anyone;
*Cover your pin when doing ATM transaction;
*Do not withdraw large amount of cash rather use debit or credit cards for purchases;
*Always be aware of your surroundings;
*If possible withdraw money at the tellers in supermarkets;
*Be aware of card scammers and cloners;
*When using card swiping devices rather opt to insert your bank card and enter pin code and refrain from tapping as criminals use this to clone bank cards;
*Be aware of tricksters that say they can make your money more when drawing cash from ATM’s or banks;
*Do not use ATM that you suspect was tampered with;
*If you are robbed near banks and ATM’s, do not resist as this will reduce your chance getting of injured;
*Always try to utilize ATM’s that has employed security guards for your safety.
The SAPS cares about your safety and by adhering to the following safety hints, you can reduce your risk of falling victim to ATM related crimes.
