NORTHERN CAPE DEPUTY PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER FOR CRIME DETECTION HOSTS A CRIME DETECTION WORK SESSION AND RECOGNITION OF GOOD WORK BY DETECTIVES
The Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Mmantsheke Lekhele, supported by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Luntu Ngubelanga and the District Commissioner of the Frances Baard District, Major General Johan Bean hosted a crime detection work session for crime investigators across the province at the Kimberley SAPS Gym on Thursday, 11 January 2024.
The session commenced with a spiritual message for investigating officers by the Chaplain, Warrant Officer N Geco.
Major General Lekhele, accompanied by her Provincial Detective Heads, Section Coordinators and Branch Commanders, outlined the purpose of the work session. She stated that crime investigators play an integral role in the criminal justice system by working closely with law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to uncover the truth behind complex cases.
She mentioned that the escalating levels of crime places a duty on the police to perform their tasks optimally to address the common mistakes that lead to the State losing cases in Courts.
The police Legal Services and Organised Crime Components facilitated numerous presentations that included, search and seizure warrants, arrest without warrants, section 252A of the Criminal Procedure Act (CPA), Cyber Crime Act (CCA), Domestic Violence Amended Acts (DVAA), section 205 of the CPA, essential infrastructure investigation, utilization of investigation tools and processes.
In response to the presentations the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA’s) Chief Prosecutors in attendance shared important insight in order to strengthen cases in Court and stressed the importance of the Prosecutor/IO’s relations in ensuring convictions.
In order to ensure a professional and capable SAPS, the Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola is committed to an improved, thorough and responsive approach towards the investigation of crime.
The capacitation and motivation of the members will ensure confidence in the SAPS’ investigative ability to solve crime.
Forty nine (49) police officials, including prosecutors, were awarded with commendation certificates for the sterling work they produced and ensuring the conviction of perpetrators. End
