Church celebrates 27th Anniversary

The Ikageng Presbyterian church celebrated its 27th anniversary on Sunday 1 November with praise, worship and a compelling sermon.
The Retswelele based church started in 1993 with 16 families who fellowshipped at Elder Michael August’s house. Later on, they secured a site and erected a shack, while raising funds to construct the church building, which was completed in 2012. The ministry has grown to 180 congregants.
Speaking to the congregation Pastor, Celani Mbhele said the church’s journey began in 1993 and was long and uncomfortable. Mbhele remembers the many storms the church has gone through, but God’s grace has sustained the church and it has grown.
Mbhele urged the new generation of believers to stand on the word of God and understand that Christ is love. He stated, “we are not born adults or Christians, but we learn Christian values, and we must retain these principles and strive to grow spiritually.” Mbhele made it is clear that “just because your mother and father are Christians, it doesn’t make you one.” He encouraged them to run their race.
The Anniversary celebration was attended by Reverends from the AME, UCCSA, Anglican Church, including members from the Galeshewe Ministers Fraternal (GAMIFRA).
A representative from GAMIFRA, Reverend Shimane Morake, rendered a message of support. “It is a great privilege to be here today and witness this important event. This church has come a long way, it was not easy, but through hard work and perseverance, the congregation is still standing. I urge you to keep spreading the word of God, and may this church continue to grow and change the lives of the people in this community.”
