TEN YEAR SENTENCE FOR KURUMAN RAPIST

Phenyo Kolwane(36) was recently found guilty in the Mothibistad Regional Court and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for raping a nineteen year old girl in Kuruman.

 On 27 October 2018 at about 13:00 the victim and the accused were drinking at a friend’s house in Dikweng Village in Kuruman.

The accused and the victim then left with his car to buy beers when the accused stopped and raped the victim in a veld.

The accused was arrested on 28 October 2018 and was sentenced on 8 May 2024 to 10 years imprisonment of which two years is suspended for five.

He was also declared the unfit to carry a firearm and his name was registered National Register for Sex offenders.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola commended Const Tholakele Majola from the Kuruman Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for the meticulous investigation which to led to the imprisonment of the perpetrator. Detectives in the province will remain steadfast in their quest to bring GBVF perpetrators to justice.
