Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Galeshewe, the only Shrine in the Kimberley Diocese, celebrated 61 years under the theme “The Role of Mary in the Church”.

A Mission week was held from 8 to 16 October various activities included an exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Sacrament of Reconciliation and presentations by priests from other parishes followed by daily mass.

Parish Priest Fr Molefe Koloi presented several topics under the theme and quoted from different scriptures. He referred to John 20:27 to illustrate the significance of Mary in the church. “Jesus said to his Disciples when he was crucified: “Here is your mother. “A clear instruction to the world that Jesus left his mother for us”, lamented Koloi. He also encouraged parishioners to teach their children the importance of Christ in their lives and the significance of living
peacefully.

St Peters the Apostle and St Charles Lwanga’s steward, Fr Jeremiah Mahatlheng, spoke extensively about the role played by Block Executive in the existence of the parish.

A member of the Oblate of Mary Immaculate (OMI), Fr Andrew Wolfe, currently working in Khathu, shared his wealth of knowledge.  Although parishioners struggled to hear what he was saying due to old age, they remained glued throughout his presentation.

Wolfe reminisced about his arrival in South Africa from Lesotho in 1962 and shared fond memories of his late colleagues such as Fr Dotmeyer, Fr Kreuz and Bs Erwin Hetch. He expressed gratitude for having the opportunity to visit his superior before passing on, although he vividly remembers their conversation. He quoted Bs Hetch, “My life is now in Germany since I have retired, but my heart is in Kimberley” Wolfe expressed disappointment because he could
not attend Hetch’s funeral.

The soft-speaking Wolfe reminded parishioners about the importance of praying the Rosary regularly. “The Rosary covers all areas of our lives, whether we are in sorrow, joy, light, or celebrating. Adjust your prayers according to the circumstances to find yourself to be in, not necessarily according to the days of the week as prescribed”, he advised.

Meanwhile, in closing the Rosary month on 16 October, parishioners from St Peters the Apostle in Vergenoeg and St Charles Lwanga in Ipeleng gathered at the Galeshewe Circle, opposite Pick ‘n Pay to pray the Rosary and celebrate mass.
