African Bank hosted an empowerment seminar for women in business at Nare Boutique Hotel in Kimberley last month and roped in Keabetswe ‘KB’ Motsilanyane the award-winning singer, songwriter, actress, dancer and businesswoman as master of ceremonies.

The guests were gracefully welcomed by Alicia Visagie an employee at African Bank. “All of you ladies look absolutely beautiful tonight”, she complimented. Amongst the guests were businesswomen, educators and managers of retail stores at the Diamond Pavilion Mall in Kimberley.

Oreratile Tlhaole, a 28-year-old businesswoman from Kathu was also among the guests. “I started my brand, Kgosigadi in 2017. We sell printed clothing items”, Tlhaole explained.

Abigail Serokolo Mohapanelo, a veteran teacher and principal at Dr E P Lekhela High school in Galeshewe also honoured the invitation. “I believe that when you empower a woman, you empower a nation.

Simphiwe Millicent George, the founder of ‘The Hustle School’ commented that: “It is us as women who should uplift one another”

Women were given a chance to introduce their businesses, ask questions and share issues that they face at the workplace”.

There was a panel which answered their questions, offered business advice and even discussed topics such as being a widow and a divorcee. “These topics are often the ones that we as women are afraid to share”, she said.

Various women thanked African Bank for assisting them financially. Apart from the ladies in attendance, Clement Sithole, the central regional head of African Bank and Innocent Sibanda, the area manager ensured that the event ran smoothly. “We wanted to celebrate women while taking BEE into consideration. We chose Nare Boutique Hotel as the venue because it is owned by a female, Tsholo Wesi”, said Sibanda.

The audience was in absolute awe of ‘KB’ Motsilanyane and took pictures with her. “Let’s vote and see who are here to support ‘Nandipha’ in House of Zwide and ‘Lesedi’ in 7de Laan”, KB euphorically asked the audience. By a show of hands the ladies expressed which television soapie they enjoyed the most.

Motsilanyane performed a few of her hit songs including ‘Beautiful we are’ and ‘Rock Lefatshe’ to which everyone danced and sang along to.

In the end the event brought women together and allowed them to network with one another. After successfully hosting the event in Kimberley the follow-up event took place in Bloemfontein last month.
