Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr Zamani Saul, announced the appointment of Lorato Venus Blennies as MEC for Youth, Women, Disability, Communications and E-Government in the Office of the Premier. This fulfills Premier Saul’s vision during the inaugural address for the Sixth Administration of a Modern, Growing and Successful Province.
His emphasis was on developing and empowering the youth, women, children and people living with disabilities, including modernisation of service delivery and improved service standards. For these programmes to find meaningful expression in the Provincial Administration, a decision was taken to establish an additional ministry whose core focus will be the abovementioned responsibilities. This Ministry will assist in fulfilling these obligations and ensure a sustained and
dedicated drive toward prioritising these sectors.
The primary responsibility of this Ministry’s E-Government mandate is to oversee the establishment of a network infrastructure that would link government buildings, including schools and hospitals. It will work to construct an e-governance structure to direct priorities, policies, standards, and regulations as well as an enabling platform and support service allowing the Northern Cape Provincial Government Departments to deliver e-government services. It will
also encourage public and private partnerships to create and introduce e-government services, which will help stimulate the ICT economy.
The Premier and Executive Council are convinced that the new MEC, with a dedicated team, will enhance services under her portfolio to meet the desired results.
Dr Saul is confident that with his colleagues’ support, the agenda of youth, women and children, communication, and eGovernment will remain a priority for our Province.
On behalf of the Provincial Aministration, Premier Saul extended his good wishes to Blennies and has complete confidence that this Ministry will increase the growth and development trajectory of the Province. Lorato Venus Blennies was sworn in on, 26 October 2022.
