In keeping with the Back to School campaign, MEC for Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Land Reform and Rural Department, Mase Manopole, visited Tshireleco Senior School on 9 March.

Annually the Premier assigns a school to each department, to provide them with necessities.

Tshireleco was assigned to the Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Land Reform and Rural Department,

“We are working on developing sports grounds and managed to cut the grass,” said Zandisile Luphahla, the Department’s

Spokesperson.

Manopole distributed school tracksuits and sanitary towels to Grade 12 learners, including laboratory equipment for the school.  She acknowledged that students might be anxious to commence with their studies due to the pandemic. “We are here to help ease your concern and offer you the necessary support. Social Workers are assigned to different schools to provide counseling,” said the MEC.

Manopole urged the learners to keep their school and environment clean.  “Charity begins at home. If we can keep our homes and surroundings clean, it will be easier to keep our school clean. We need to take charge of our environment,” she added.

The MEC also vowed to assist the school with establishing a vegetable garden.  It will aid in the relief of unemployment and poverty in the community.

Kgositsele Brandt, a grade 12 learner, expressed his gratitude by saying,  “I am grateful for the donation made by the department.   We have been struggling to perform experiments in the Physical Science class due lack of equipment.”

Amogelang Modiakgotla could not contain her excitement and said they thank the department for the gesture. It will make an impact because some cannot afford to buy sanitary towels.

The acting principal, Daniel Tshipinyana, praised the department for everything they did for the school, including the services of a security guard after the science equipment was stolen during a break-in.

“We hope the little that we have contributed will go a long way in shaping future leaders of our country,” concluded Manopole.
