There’s good news and there’s bad news. Let’s start with the latter to get it out of the way.

All the terrible questions are still swimming through our minds. Is there going to be another major lockdown? Will we eradicate this thing before we must wrestle with the economic disaster or must do both? What will become of the unstable political climate and corruption issues amid a crisis?

And those are only the macro ones when let’s face it, we’re all struggling with a myriad of personal ones.? Are we safe? Will all of my family and friends escape this pandemic or will one of us catch it? Will I lose someone? Are my kids going to be ok and what long term effects will this have had on them? Can I take much more? Will my superhuman levels of courage sustain me crossing this, we are all running on fumes living in constant fear and uncertainty And so many more which we try hard to ignore and not let them get us down.

If there’s one thing this global pandemic has taught me is that life is not a straight road, it is a bending and winding road full of stones. Although fairly normal to slip into panic’s grip when facing challenging situations, it is far-reaching to find your sense of calm and see the struggle for what it is.

They say when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. The good news is that this phrase is true. It however does not caution us that making lemonade is a piece of art that requires hard work. When you squeeze a lemon and its juice happens to penetrate your fingertips, you can experience a stinging sensation that requires you to adjust and adapt to the pain before you continue.  When washing your lemons, they might slip and fall necessitating you to bend down and pick them up, wash them again and continue with your process.

Now comes the part where you must stir in the sugar. It takes skill and time to pour the correct amount and stir the juice to perfection. If you don’t have a blender you have to make use of a spoon which requires hard work and patience. But finally, when the juice is ready, happiness and satisfaction are incomparable. Throw ice cubes and serve chilled.

So, what am I trying to say is that making lemonade is not such an easy task, but when you want to feel the freshness and relaxation the lemonade offers, you must put in your time and energy. Right now life is not only giving us lemons but an avalanche of lemon trees and remember lemon trees have thorns. It is still not clear when this catastrophe is going to end, and all the terrible questions are still swimming through our minds. You can nevertheless not be disheartened because one of the renowned authors to have walked this earth left us encouraging words to help us soldier on.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed;

perplexed, but not in despair;

 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.

Begin again. Though you experience every kind of pressure, begin again. Even though at times you don’t know what to do, quitting is not an option. With God on your side, you may be knocked down but not out.
