Church and Scouts honor Pathfinders

In collaboration with the Scouts, the Seventh Day Adventist Church’s Pathfinder Club commemorated World Pathfinder Day on 16 September with a grand parade in Galeshewe, Kimberley, under the theme “Go with Jesus.”
The director for Kimberley Pathfinder Clubs, Keneilwe Nkosi, indicated that the day started with programmes at their different churches. The day’s message was based on the book of Luke chapter 9, verses 16-18, where a boy gave his two loaves and five fish to serve others, “meaning you must do good unto others,” she said.
“We have decided to collaborate with the Scouts because we serve a common goal. Today’s parade is against the scourge of Gender Base Violence and Drug Abuse. These aberrations plague our communities. We are also sending a message to parents that organizations like ours can assist children from the street and do something constructive for them,” she explained.
The flags were flying high, and synchronized drums could be heard from the Galeshewe circle as 120 Pathfinders and 75 scouts dressed in uniforms with badges indicating the candidate’s achievements. The parade started at the circle and proceeded to the Thomas Morebudi tennis courts in Nkgare Street, Galeshewe, for the rest of the celebration.
As the procession continued, the streets were packed with fascinated adults and children. Some onlookers joined the march and walked side-by-side with the army, trying to emulate the marchers. Most admirers struggled to keep up with the pace. A convoy of cars followed the body of marchers.
At the Thomas Morebudi tennis courts, the marching throng raised the parade flags and saluted the commanders.
Although Pathfinder Clubs reside within the Seventh Day Adventist Church, membership is open to everyone who wants to join, irrespective of religious orientation or lack thereof. Members are accepted from the age of four to 16.
The Pathfinders Clubs are in the process of establishing community clubs. Currently, church-based clubs are available at Squarehill Park, Emmang Mmogo Scout Centre and Retswelele. Their programmes focus on a holistic approach consisting of spiritual discovery, community outreach, friendship development, and survival skills, to mention a few.
