Robyn Rossouw, a 26-year-old talented actress born and bred in Utility and Ashburnham in Kimberley has turned her dream of being a television and movie star into reality.

“Growing up I was always so captivated by TV and film. It seemed so cool to be in all those different places and different worlds”, she said enthusiastically.

Being an only child Rossouw received immense support from her family regarding her chosen career. “My mother and grandmother have always been supportive. The entire family always watch me on TV and are excited for every single project I do”.

After attending West End Primary School Rossouw matriculated from Kimberley Girls’ High School. “My biggest dream then was to be a veterinarian but I ultimately decided at the last minute during my matric year to pursue my studies in Drama. This was because deep down in me this dream seemed impossible but so possible at the same time,” she said.

In 2019 Rossouw graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Drama and Theatre from Stellenbosch University. Rossouw immediately started auditioning and working. “I am the first in my family to pursue acting professionally. My very first role was in ‘Sara se Geheim’. I said two lines, but it was so exciting!

Nowadays people mostly recognise me as ‘Monique’ from Arendsvlei but I have done so much work since then that I am very proud of.”

Her rise to stardom happened rapidly. “I started out mainly in television series and TV movies. My first feature film role was in October 2021. It was Legacy on Mnet and Showmax.

Rossouw also plays ‘Crystal’ in a feature film called Tickets on Amazon Prime. On Showmax she has starred in “Krismisboks”, “Dolla”, “Nagvrees”, “Koshuis” and “Party Kry ‘n Naweek”.

In addition Rossouw declared that: “I have three films and one series that is currently in post-production. I cannot wait for everyone to see it!

“Apart from acting, I can sing, write music and scripts and I dance too. It is great if you can diversify yourself in different art forms because it makes you more versatile. I also started dubbing at the end of 2020”. In her spare time, Rossouw enjoys cooking, hiking and being outdoors.

Amidst her success, she revealed that she has experienced financial setbacks “but the Lord always provides”. I think we face little setbacks every day. However, we should surrender to God and let Him take over.”

Rossouw reminds young aspiring actors to:, “Always have a job on the side. Not many people can get by on acting alone. You need to have medical aid and a retirement fund”.” Be You. Become comfortable with yourself and your skills and know that what you bring to the table is original”.
