The Northern Cape Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) hosted an Integrated Development Plan (IDP) Engagement Session with all the thirty-one (31) municipalities of the Northern Cape from Monday 03 June to Wednesday 05 June 2024, in Upington, in the Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality (ZF Mcgawu District).

An IDP is a comprehensive and inclusive plan that outlines a municipality’s priorities and strategies for economic and social development plans and is a critical component of the Municipal Systems Act, which requires that all municipalities in South Africa develop and regularly review their IDPs. The Act also requires that municipalities consult with their communities and other stakeholders in the development of their IDP.

The purpose of the Department of COGHSTA engagement sessions is to, assess whether municipalities, during the current IDP review process (2024/2025) have identified areas in which the IDP (2022 – 2026) needs to be amended;  assist and support municipalities with integration and consolidation of the programme and projects of external stakeholders like sector departments and private sector; and to grant sector departments the opportunity to engage with municipalities on their respective planned projects for the financial year 2024 – 2025, for the projects to find expression in the Municipal IDPs.
