Empowering African Environmental Science: JWO Research Grant Seeks Another Trailblazing Recipient
Supplied
In the realm of global research and development, Africa has often been
overlooked, with limited resources directed towards its diverse
landscapes and communities. However, the tide is turning, propelled by
initiatives like the Jennifer Ward Oppenheimer Research Grant (JWO
Grant). As the grant enters its sixth year, it continues to carve a path
for African environmental science, empowering the continent’s brightest
minds to tackle pressing challenges.
The JWO Grant was established in 2019 to honor the legacy of the late, Jennifer Ward Oppenheimer, a distinguished pioneer in African education and environmental science.
The organization invites early-career scholars and scientists to apply,
offering them the opportunity to secure transformative awards. The
grant’s impact extends beyond academia, influencing policy and practice.
As the JWO Grant enters a new phase, it seeks to attract a greater
number of early-career scientists in 2024, reaffirming its commitment to
empowering African environmental science.

- The 2024 JWO Research Grant encourages transdisciplinary research applications that demonstrate a strong link to biodiversity and conservation.
