Francis Baard District to receive majority of houses in Housing project

Following the launch of  the R1 billion human settlement housing project by President Cyril Ramaphosa in Kimberley, it was announced that the Northern Cape has a backlog of 80 000 houses emanating from 162 informal settlements.
It is estimated that from the R1 billion, 4 168 houses will be built from 15 municipalities in the province. The government will partner with various stakeholders to deliver diverse housing opportunities, including programs such as First Home Finance that allow citizens to apply for housing subsidies.
According to the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (Coghsta) the houses will be built in phases. Four thousand one hundred and sixty-eight houses will be built. Construction of the first 2 500 is expected to start before 1 April 2024.
The 4 168 houses will be allocated as follows: 1 317 Francis Baard , 910 John Taolo Gaetsewe, 765 Pixley Ka Seme, 676 Namakwa and 500 ZF Mgcawu.
These BNG houses are larger than RDP houses, which are 40 square meters big.   It consists of two bedrooms, a bathroom with a toilet, shower and hand basin, including a kitchen and living room area.
