GALESHEWE RAPIST SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT
The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola and her management applauded the Galeshewe Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for securing the life sentence handed down by the Galeshewe Regional Court to a 43 year old man following the rape and attempted rape of his 17 year old step daughter in Galeshewe between 2017 and 27 June 2020.
The Court heard that the accused in 2017 while the victim was 14 years old entered her room, closed her mouth with a clothe and raped her. He threathened to kill her and her mother if she divulged the incident to her mother.
The accused on Saturday, 27 June 2020 again attempted to rape the victim who was 17 years old then but his act was derailed by the victim’s mother who summoned the police to effect his arrest.
The Court found the accused guilty as charged and sentenced him to life imprisonment for rape and 10 years for attempted rape and instructed that his name be recorded in the National Register for Sex Offenders and also declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
Lieutenant General Otola, praised the investigating officer, Detective Constable Beverley Matlhale for the thorough investigative work, ensuring that justice is served for victims of GBVF.
