Northern Cape Cricket (NCC) is hosting the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under 19 Men’s Cricket World Cup. The tournament began on January 19, 2024, with the host South Africa taking on West Indies in Bloemfontein.

This is the 15th edition of the tournament, comprising 16 countries. Teams from four groups will play forty-one (41) games throughout the tournament. Group A consists of India, Ireland, Bangladesh, and the United States of America. Group B is made up of England, the West Indies, the host nation of South Africa, and Scotland. Group C includes Sri Lanka, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Australia, whereas Group D comprises New Zealand, Pakistan, Nepal, and Afghanistan.

Three teams from each group will progress and enter a new Super Six stage starting January 30. The NCC is hosting Group C games. All the Group C games will take place at the Kimberley Oval, Kimberley, where the new crop of international rising stars will showcase their talents. Entrance is free, and the games will start at 10 am.

This is the third time that South Africa has hosted this prestigious event. The previous two times were in 1998 and 2020, respectively. South Africa’s commitment to nurturing young talent is evident in hosting this prestigious event, which provides a stage where future cricketing legends can emerge.

The decision to entrust Northern Cape Cricket with the responsibility of hosting Group C adds a different flavor to this tournament edition.

This move highlights the event’s inclusivity, acknowledging the cricketing passion that extends beyond traditional strongholds. It’s a testament to the sport’s global nature, where every region, regardless of size, contributes to the cricketing tapestry.

Cricket fans can expect thrilling contests, emerging talents, and a celebration of the spirit of the game against the backdrop of the charming Kimberley Oval, a Battleground for the rising cricket stars. Zimbabwe plays against Namibia on Saturday, January 27. On Sunday, January 28, Australia will take on Sri Lanka.
