Men’s Hockey Sidestep Pro League

The South African Hockey Association SAHA) has announced that the national men’s team will not take part in the new season’s matches organised by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) as they could not honour a funding deadline set for last January.
The SA men’s hockey team are fresh from winning a top ten spot on on the back of wins in the FIH’s Nations Cup which was staged in Potchefstroom early this year as well as the World Cup.
Saha said on its website: “Following the South African Hockey Men’s victory at the FIH Nations Cup in Potchefstroom the team had earned a spot in the FIH Pro League subject to specific financial obligations being met by the January deadline and as a result we could not accept our place in this competition”.
The South African Government is on record expressing iyts dismay at the men’s hockey team to pull out from the international Pro League.
