Mothers’ Union meet in Kimberley

Six hundred and ninety women from the Anglican Deanery of Kimberley and Kuruman descended to Kimberley for the 30th Mothers’ Union Conference, held at the Old Christian Revival Church, from  Friday, 27 September to Sunday, 29 under the theme “Transformation”.

The Kimberley and Kuruman Deanery is divided into five districts, the Diamond Field, Mafikeng, Molopo, Gariep and Kgalagadi

from the Northern Cape and North West Provinces under the leadership of Bs Brian Marajh.

Mother Mojakhumo Dithejane, the reigning President of the Union, lit the Conference candle, officially opening the 30th Annual Mothers’ Union Conference.

The conference started with the Holy Eucharist led by Chaplain Father Boitumelo Makoloi a talented baritone singer who conducted a “Female Mass Choir” sang the famous Psalm 124.

Candles were lit in memory of members who passed on from the last conference until that day.

The programme was a hype of activities with physically and emotionally enriching.

Saturday started with a prayer hour, allowing delegates to reflect under the guidance of Chaplain OJ Dithejane.

As the day progressed, delegates shared tender moments after an informative session presented by Yvonne Magxala, the Provincial Mental Health Coordinator from the Department of Health.  Magxala, spoke about the different types of Mental illnesses and advised delegates on how to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental illness.

Mothers confided and comforted each other as they shared their emotions and experiences.

After a heavy session of sharing testimonies, the tone changed to a jubilant mode,  with delegates celebrating Heritage Day.

The church became alive with vibrant colours representing different cultures, dominated by the Batswana attire.  The session started with a music completion.  Sweet and calming voices filled the church, soothing the hearts of those in pain.  Delegates sang along to popular tunes, clapped hands and moved with the rhythm.  The Gariep group, mesmerised their fellow parishioners with their dress code and dance moves.  Trophies were awarded, Mafikeng was crowned the overall winner under the baton of Gail…….

As tradition, trees were blessed on Sunday morning to be planted at St Peters Parish in Greenpoint, a symbol that the conference was hosted by the Diamond Field Region. The dress code was Archdeaconry Attire, creating an atmosphere of a fashion show. Except the different fabric pattern, each member had their own design, ranging from flowing dresses, skirts, suits including wait coats. Mass was celebrated by Bs Maharaji, who dedicated a prayer for mothers, copies were distributed after mass. The President then extinguished the candle, symbolizing the end of the conference.
