Former Bloemfontein Celtics and Kaizer Chiefs defender Fabian McCarthy has encouraged upcoming soccer players not to allow the Covid 19 pandemic to distract them from improving their talents. McCarthy said this during the MTN 8 trophy tour for the MTN Wafa Wafa Cup held in Kimberley.

He stated that the MTN 8 tour to different parts of the country is part of ploughing back to the community. The MTN8 Wafa Wafa tournament is contested by clubs that finished within the top eight bracket during the 2019/2020 Absa Premiership league season.

The tournament aims to unleash talent through mini soccer clinics where former professional soccer players get a chance to play with upcoming soccer players and provide them with training.

The winning club receives the coveted R8-million prize, while the runner-up and the other six clubs get the same participation fee of R800 000.

The MTN8 Football Legends that were chosen by fans for the 2019/20 season are: Benedict Vilakazi, Joseph Makhanya, Benson Mhlongo, Josta Dladla, Fabian McCarthy, Katlego Mphela, Jabu Mahlangu and Thabo Mooki.
