NC: BARKLY WEST GBVF ACCUSED SENTENCED FOR ASSAULT GBH
KIMBERLEY-07 December 2023:
The SAPS management welcomed the sentence recently handed down to a GBVF accused in the Barkly West Regional Court.
The court heard that on Sunday evening, 21 July 2019, the then 21-year-old female victim was at a shebeen at Rooirand, Barkly West where an argument ensued between the victim and the accused.
The accused assaulted the victim, followed the victim home and attempted to raped her.
A case of assault GBH and attempted rape was open and the accused was arrested.
After receiving bail, the accused failed to appear before court and the court issued a warrant for his arrest and he was traced and arrested.
On Tuesday, 28 November 2023, the 25-year-old accused, Shadrack Tlhotleng pleaded guilty and was convicted and sentenced to 1-year direct imprisonment for Assault GBH by the Barkly West Regional Court. The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola applauded Warrant Officer Daniel Satisfied for ensuring that GBVF perpetrators are brought to justice and that the conviction brings closure and confidence to the victim that the Justice Crime Prevention and Security Cluster is at work in protecting the vulnerable.
