NC: OPERATION SHANELA IN KIMBERLEY

Operation Shanela actions gains momentum as police in the Kimberley area continued with high density actions on Friday, 8 December 2023 at 19h00.

Crime prevention initiatives were conducted by members of Kimberley Visible Police, Public Order Police and K9 unit, in conjunction with Local security companies, Community in Blue, Community Police Forum, and Sol Plaatje municipal compliance inspectors.

The operation commenced with a parade conducted by Brigadier Nicholas Mtongana as the operational commander. The Frances Baard District Commissioner, Maj Gen Johan Bean, joined the parade and applauded the members for their dedication in embarking on eradicating crime, and encouraged them to, at all times to be vigilant when excecuting their duties.

Phase one commenced with blue light patrols executed in the greater Kimberley area, where stop and searches were conducted, and visibility at hot sport areas.

During the second phase, tuck shops and various liquor outlets were visited for compliance, during which owners were sensitized about business robberies. Searches were also conducted on six buses and two undocumented male persons, ages 23 and 40 respectively, were arrested.
