NC Premier sends condolences to the SANDF members who lost their lives during veld fires

The Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr. Zamani Saul, expressed sadness at the news of the devastating fire that broke out on the 6th of October 2023 at the South African Army Combat Training Centre (CTC) at Lohatla in Postmansburg leading to the tragic passing of six people, Staff Sergeant Abraham Desember Morajane, Staff Sergeant Sipho Berrington Cele, Corporal Sithembiso Wiseman Ndwalane, Corporal Noxolo Faith Ngubane, Lance Corporal Prince Michael Mthethwa and Lance Corporal Londiwe Purity Zulu and the hospitalisation of three people.
On behalf of the Provincial Government, the Premier expresses sincere condolences to the families, friends, Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Thandi Modise, Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Thabang Makwetla, Chief of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), General Rudzani Maphwanya and colleagues.
He salutes and thanks these members for their selfless and courageous service to the country and its citizens. He wished a speedy recovery to the three hospitalized soldiers.
“The Provincial Government is on high alert for coordinating all hazards, including veld fires and to this end have established the Northern Cape Umbrella Fire Association to monitor and mobilise resources during veld fires. We are pleased that veld fires in the Lohatla and Gamagara areas have been contained”, said Premier.
The Northern Cape Provincial Government will, in partnership with and if requested by the SANDF, render psycho-social support services to the families, friends and colleagues of the departed members.
