NC: PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER WELCOMES FIVE LIFE SENTENCES HANDED DOWN TO SEVERN RAPIST
Kimberley: 29 November 2023: The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lt Gen Koliswa Otola welcomes the five life sentences that were handed down to Severn rapist, Jeffrey Kenosi in the Mothibistad Regional Court, recently.
Jeffrey Kenosi(30) pounced on his first female victim on 30 April 2021 at about 22:00, while she was on her phone outside a tavern in Madibeng Village, Severn.
The 21-year-old victim was eight months pregnant when she was accosted by the accused.
Kenosi beat her and forcefully dragged her to his house where he raped her twice.
Police arrested the accused on the 7 May 2021 and he received bail 6 months later.
On 27 January 2022 at approximately 20:00 in Eiffel Village, Severn, Kenosi struck again when he entered a house where four girls were having a sleep-over at a friend’s house.
The accused placed the bed in front of the door, beat the girls with a shambok and raped the 15, 16, and two 14-year-old girls inside the room, while the parents were sleeping in a backroom in the yard.
Kenosi was arrested 3 days later by the police and remained in custody up until his sentence in the Mothibistad Regional Court on 28 November 2023.
Kenosi received five (5) life sentences for the rapes and the sentences will run concurrently.
His name will also be entered in the sexual offences register and he was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Lt Gen Koliswa Otola commended the investigation officer D/Sgt Keitshwaretswe Schoeman of the Kuruman Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses unit for her meticulous investigation that led to this exceptional rape conviction.
Gen Otola reiterated that GBVF remains a priority crime for SAPS and officers will continue to sharpen their responses to crimes committed against the most vulnerable in society, especially during and beyond the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign and beyond. ”
