NC: THE PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER HOSTS AN EARLY CHRISTMAS FOR THE ELDERLY IN GALESHEWE

Kimberley-11 December 2023: The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola hosted an early Christmas for the elderly in Galeshewe.

The event was attended by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Luntu Ngubelanga, Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Mmantsheke Lekhele, Provincial Heads, Deputy District Commissioner of Frances Baard District, Brig Charlotte Makgari, Galeshewe Station Commander Brig Trevor Ngxotholozi, and Senior Managers at an assisted living facility for the elderly in Seochoareng, Galeshewe.

The event was opened with a prayer by Reverend Shimane Morake.

The Galeshewe Station Commander, Brigadier Trevor Ngxotholozi welcomed all residents and guests.

Brigadier Irene Kopeledi, the Provincial Head for Pro-Active Policing, highlighted the purpose of the day. She stated that it is the responsibility of SAPS to protect the elderly from harm and to support victims of crime.

Mr Stephen Mabika provided a background of the facility and indicated that the core function of the facility is to assist the residents and provide for their needs.

He said that SAPS regularly visits the facility and engages with the elderly residents.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape in her keynote address, reassured the elderly that SAPS will continue supporting the elderly and the vulnerable in our society and thanked the Station Commander of Galeshewe SAPS for visiting the facility on a regular basis and engaging the residents.

She urged the community to take care of the elderly and keep them safe.

The Provincial commissioner, Deputy Provincial Commissioners, and Senior Managers handed over gifts to the elderly.

Mr Omphemetse Moholweng in delivering the vote of thanks, thanked the Provincial Commissioner, Deputy Provincial Commissioners and all senior officers, and said they had come to draw wisdom from the fountain of the elderly.

The service was concluded with a benediction by Reverent Shimane Morake while the Provincial SAPS band led the elderly and SAPS members with festive Christmas songs.
