The District Commissioner of Z F Mgcawu, Maj Gen Thabo Mphuthi hosted the Excellence Awards on Friday, 8 December 2023 at Upington TVET College.
This was the first excellence awards ceremony to be held in the district honoured by the presence of the Executive Mayor of Dawid Kruiper Municipality, Mr Michael Segede, the Speaker Me Melanie Dodds, The District Commissioner of JTG, Major General Keagekae Besnaar, District Commissioner of Namaqua, Brigadier Schalk Andrews, the Station Commander of Upington SAPS Brigadier Peet Coetzee and Mr Armando Damara from the NPA.
The ceremony was opened with a sermon by Chaplain Sekopane Mosetlhe.
The Mayor, Mr Segede welcomed all guests and nominees. He alluded that the police work is the most difficult career, however the members are always motivated to do their best.
The partners in the fight against crime, the Junior District Commissioner Tracy-Lee Booysen and Community Police Forum Chairperson Mr Clement Baai delivered a message of support to the members followed by the trade unions SAPU and POPCRU.
The Keynote address was delivered by Major General Thabo Mphuthi who extended her gratitude to the members and their families. She said that “success is rooted in strong will” and that their efforts are acknowledged. She congratulated all the nominees and the winners were announced as follows:
