The Northern Cape Provincial Government has over the past 30 years made great strides in transforming the education landscape in the Province through massive investment in Education.
The sixth administration further declared Education as one of its apex priorities, confirming that Education is an important cornerstone to ensuring that it reaches its vision of building a modern, growing and successful Province.
Over the past seven weeks, the Northern Cape Department of Education has handed over six new schools in the Province, as well as two brand new Hostels.
These infrastructure projects are located in areas which had been identified as being in need of infrastructure provision. These are;
New Schools/Hostels:
-Petrusville Primary School (Petrusville)
-Rooirand Primary School (Barkly West)
-Greenpoint Primary School (Kimberley)
-Bathlaro-Thlaping High School Hostel (Mothibistad)
-Lesedi High School Hostel (Bathlaros)
-Lutzburg Primary School (Kakamas)
-JJ Booysen Primary School (Loxton)
-Kimberley Academy (Kimberley)
Sod Turning Ceremonies:
-Special School (De Aar)
-Gariep High School Hostel (Prieska)
The above-mentioned school infrastructure projects represent a total investment in Education of just over R900 million. Infrastructure projects of this nature aim to reduce overcrowding in schools, eradicate inappropriate schools structures (asbestos) and create a conducive environment for quality public education.
Through these projects, we have been able to create many local job opportunities in the communities these schools serve. This in return, will instil ownership of the school, protecting our institutions of learning against any form of vandalism and theft.
The new design of these modern and state of the art schools, as well as the facilities, offer a unique learning experience to learners. All schools are now equipped with science laboratories, ICT classrooms, new school furniture, Multipurpose Sport facilities, School Libraries, Nutrition Centres, School Hall, ECD Centres, and many more.
MEC Zolile Monakali highlighted that: “ These initiatives showcase our unwavering commitment to ensure that the doors of learning are open and that the Northern Cape remains alive with endless possibilities. In education, we are all one big family, striving for the same goals for the future of our children”.
Education in the Northern Cape is on a positive trajectory to ensure universal access to education and improve the quality of public education. Every child is a national asset and every child must succeed.
