Pledge for a better future

Grade 12 learners from Tswelopele Correctional Centre signed the National Pledge administered by the Northern Cape Department of Education, officials and educators from the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) on 2 November. The pledge was signed as a symbolic gesture to desist any form of temptation to engage in unscrupulous conduct during examinations. It aims to instill a sense of commitment to comply with the examination code of conduct in all Grade 12 learners.

Area Communication Manager in Kimberley, Siphiwo Nomvethe informed the  learners that those who are armed with an education stand a better chance for a better tomorrow. She added, “when you are an offender who will one day be released back to society and will be expected to fend for yourself and family.

You must make use of the opportunities afforded by government and the Department of Correctional Services while you are serving your sentence, to equip yourselves and face the realities of the world we live in,” Nomvethe continued.

Carl Miller, Infrastructure Coordinator from the Northern Cape Department of Education (NCDOE), delivered a message of support that resonated well with the DCS’s aspirations and optimism. “The NCDOE encourages you to focus on your studies. As future leaders of our great nation, we are confident that with good and thorough preparation, you will produce excellent results in your examinations,” said Miller.

The Grade 12 learners echoed the speakers’ same sentiments and undertook to study long and hard and deliver the best results.
