Revival FM celebrates nine years in Christian broadcasting

Revival FM SA, a Northern Cape based Christian community radio station in Kimberley last month celebrated its ninth year of existence as a Christian community broadcast radio station with a grand gala at the AFM Auditorium in Phomolong, Galeshewe.
Revival FM, operates as a division of Mokgareng Media House. It was licensed on 15 October 2012 and went on air on 17 October 2014 on 92.7MHz.
The station is located at the corner of Stockdale street and Du Toitspan road in the Kimberley central business district. The broadcast license falls under the community interest category, focusing on the Christian faith community. It was initially only licensed for eleven years by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa which permitted it to broadcast until 15 October 2022.
However, in 2022 the station announced that its license had been extended for a further seven years, meaning it will broadcast until 15 October 2029.
The station’s output can also be heard online by way of its app named Revival FM which is available on Google Play and Revival FM SA Live Streaming Famcast.
Revival FM chief executive officerMzimase Makapela said the station broadcasts in five languages, namely; Setswana, Sesotho, iSixhosa, Afrikaans and English. “We focus on Christian programmes in partnership with like-minded Christian organisations. We are also working with various churches, non-profit entities, community based organs and Government departments.
Omolemo Trust governs the station. One of our aims is to empower our Christian communities in broadcasting, especially young people, persons with disabilities as well as those who can’t read or write. We have community outreach programmes, Christian counseling services, youth, women and children empowerment. All these programmes are incorporated into our daily radio programming”.
