SACBC gets a Media Officer

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Kimberley was thrilled at the appointment of Jason Selikisho, as Media and Publicity Officer for the Youth Ministry by the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC) in February 2021.
This appointment allows Jason to attend all gatherings held by the Southern Africa Region’s highest structure.
SACBC Youth Chaplain, Father Mthembeni Dlamini broke the news. “I had to keep the news to myself for a week before the official announcements, which was difficult for me as I was bursting with excitement,” said Jayson.
Jason was born thirty years ago and grew up in Delportshoop is a confirmed parishioner and a member of the Youth at St Laurens Parish. The middle child out of three siblings.
He decided to take a gap year after matriculating in 2008 from Delportshoop Combined School and took photography as a hobby. Thereafter he started borrowing cameras from friends and relatives to capture pictures at events until he accumulated enough money to buy his own. He horned his craft and became a professional photographer, to an extend of running his own events company and venturing into other businesses.
Hard work and persistent took a turn for the better when he was tasked to manage the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kimberley’s Facebook page. This opportunity led to his big break. In 2017 he was requested by the late Bs Abel Gabuza to cover the Mini World Youth Conference in Durban. He got media accreditation when Pope Francis was in Mozambique in 2019. One of Bs Gabuza’s picture used by the Vatican News (June 2019).
St Laurens’ parish priest and the Kimberley Diocese Youth Chaplain, Fr Mosito, said, “This achievement is not only for Jason but the entire Diocese because the conference covers Botswana, Lesotho and South Africa as one region. To have one of us as part of that council means we will have first-hand information to what will be discussed”.
