TWO MEN SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE AND ASSAULT GBH IN KIMBERLEY.

 

Sinethemba Sisilana(29) and Mawande Jongile(23) were found guilty and sentenced on charges of assault GBH and one was also convicted for attempted rape in the Galeshewe Regional Court recently.

On 17 October 2020 at 00:05 the female victim(22) and her brother(35) were walking home in Phomolong, Kimberley, when they were accosted and assaulted by the two men.

The accused severely assaulted the brother until he lost consciousness and then attempted to rape his sister, but she managed to escape.

Both the suspects were arrested hours later by the police and were later found guilty the Galeshewe Regional Court.

On 19 January 2024 Sinethemba Sisilana and Mawande Jongile, were sentenced for assault with the intent to commit grievous bodily harm(GBH) and sentenced to 3 years direct imprisonment.

Only Sinethemba Sisilana was found guilty and sentenced to a further 5 years for attempted rape.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola lauded the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Oageng Moilwa for his meticulous investigation that led to the sentences.
