Via dolorosa

The Galeshewe Ministers Fraternal (Gamifra) held a Palm Sunday service at the Galeshewe Arena under strict covid regulations.
Congregants from various denominations were not deterred from attending this annual event under different circumstances. The services are usually hosted at churches.
Rev Jackals laid the foundation by explaining the concept. He said, “Via Dolorosa is not an address, but the painful route walked by Jesus Christ to the cross.” This was followed by the seven words presented by, Sophia Mputhi, Evangelist SB Mothelesi, Prophetess Rachel Dibane, Rev Montsheng, Rev Goeiman, Rev Khunou, Priest Ronnie Jacobs and the Rev Sicelo Mbhele summarised the preaching.
In observing holy week and a build-up to the Easter Weekend, additional services were arranged on Monday at the Ethiopian Episcopal Church. This was also in remembrance of one of their fallen soldier, Rev Nyaniso Teki. On Tuesday, the service was at the Methodist Church for People in African. At Reform Evangelical Church on Wednesday, and on Thursday, members went to their respective churches.
Gamifra’s Treasurer Arch Bishop Cross said the turn up was not as expected due to reasons beyond their control. They are hoping the situation will improve next year.
Gamifra is an inter-denomination organisation and a substructure of the South African Council of Churches. The objective is to bridge the gap between churches by observing Christian Days.
The fraternal was established in 2011 by five ministers, including the late Reverends Bassie Jackals and Mark Makhele, chairperson since the inauguration until his passing. Membership has grown to more than 35 ministers from 15 denominations or churches. It is open to all Christian religious leaders who are in good standing from their churches.
Currently, Revered Celani Mbhele is the acting Chairperson.
“We praise God, amid Covid and all its variance,” said Pastor Mogadile in closing the 2021 Palm Sunday service.
